China's level of foreign direct investment, or FDI, rose nearly 7.8 percent in January, from a year earlier. The figure now stands at over 8 billion US dollars. The Ministry of Commerce reported an overall rise for the sixth consecutive month.

Manufacturing FDI fell nearly 12 percent in January, however the service-sector figure grew by 27 percent. Foreign investment inflows are recovering, after they were hit hard by the global economic downturn in late 2008.
