Used Toyotas drop in price

2010-03-15 11:01 BJT

Toyota's global recalls have damaged its reputation and dampened sales around the world. In Beijing, prices of second-hand Toyota vehicles are falling.

The number of vehicles in Beijing's pre-owned auto market has been inadequate since the Spring Festival, so prices of most second-hand autos have risen. However, many used car dealers say Toyota vehicles are dropping in price.

A pre-owned car dealer said, "Take the Toyota Vios for example, these cars are now one to two thousand yuan cheaper than before the recall occurred. "

Compared with lower-grade second-hand Toyotas, high-end vehicles which cost more than 200 thousand yuan are seeing a more drastic fall in price. Vehicles such as the Camry have seen their prices drop 5 to 8 percent.

The price movement has made many potential second-hand car buyers hesitate. However industry insiders suggest consumers can consider buying second-hand Toyota cars which are not covered in the recalls.

Wang Meng, Beijing Used Auto Mall, said, "We cannot predict price movements in the future. But some high-end models may see a drop in price. I suggest that consumers should buy models that are not included in the recalls."

A pre-owned car dealer said, "I think consumers can buy Toyota vehicles which were produced in 2005 and 2006 because they are not involved in the recalls.

Insiders say some second-hand vehicle dealers are actively bargaining when they collect high-end Toyota models, so as to avoid risk.
