CCTV interview: Analysis on Q1 economic data with Professor Huo

2010-04-15 15:09 BJT

For more analysis on the first quarter's economic data and how it will impact future macro-economic policies, we are joined on the line by Professor Huo Deming from Peking University. Hello, Professor Huo.

Q1. China's economy grew a brisk 11.9 percent from a year earlier in the first quarter. Many experts have urged tightening measures to cool the economy. What is your interpretation of the GDP figure?

Q2. China set a full-year GDP growth target of around 8 percent in its government report, in a bid to focus on quality rather than speed. What macro-control policies are needed to balance growth and contain overheating risk for the rest of the year?

Q3. The Consumer Price Index hit 2.2 percent in the first quarter, still below the 3 percent mark that would likely trigger tightening measures. How do you see the timing of the central bank's interest rate hike?
