Volcano ash hurts European economy

Special Report: Iceland volcano eruption disrupts Europe |

Europe's aviation sector is not alone in feeling the pain brought about by the Icelandic volcano's ash. Shipping, tourism and and agriculture across the continent are just some of the businesses facing another day of disruption.

Retailers' supply chains are also seriously threatened. It's expected that many pharmacies, flower shops and fruit markets could run out of stock next week.

The cancelation of thousands of flights to Europe could also damage developing countries. That's because many of them rely on Europe buying their agricultural exports. And those exports are usually time-sensitive, and cannot wait another day.
