On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, overseas Chinese are celebrating the event around the world. Friends all over the globe have also expressed their congratulations and best wishes to China.

Overseas Chinese in Thailand have held a banquet in Bangkok to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was among the guests. He said the world has witnessed the miraculous development and prosperity of China. He offered his congratulations and best wishes for the 60th anniversary.

Both Chinese and Thai art groups put on shows.

Many Belgians also expressed their hopes for China's future. Belgian Senator Paul Wille said he was impressed by China's rapid development.

A researcher at the Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies said China's most attractive characteristic lies in its rapid development,both qualitative and quantitative.

Sha Zukang, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs said China will continue to contribute to global peace and security, as well as to its economic and social development.
