The Taliban is claiming responsibility for killing five British soldiers in Afghan's southern province of Helmand. It also says several of its members have infiltrated into Afghan police forces.
The five soldiers' deaths bring the total number of British forces killed in Afghanistan to 229. Six other British soldiers and two Afghan policemen were wounded in the incident. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown expresses condolences to the soldiers' families.
Gordon Brown, British PM, said, "While we will step up and strengthen our security wherever we can, we will not stop doing what the Afghan Taliban fear most. The sacrifice of our military is great and our resolve must match it"
