Daqing Oilfield marks 50th anniversary of discovery

The Daqing oil field lies in the northern Songliao basin in Heilongjiang  province.

The Daqing oil field has had a glorious history over the years. It has created a miracle with its high annual output, maintaining 50-million tons for 27 years until 2003. But now, it faces the reality of shrinking crude output.

Wang said, "If a field contains 98 percent water, it means the field is dead. But we has only pumped out 60 percent of crude oil. The remaining reservoir is still rich. Our goal is to pump out the remaining oil with new technology."

Head technician, Wang Qingming, has made use of polymer flooding instead of water flooding in the field. With the new technology, the production of petroleum is 12 percent higher than before. The local government is also seeking new oil and gas reserves, as well as new oil exploration technologies.
