Joint maritime rescue drill staged in Shanghai

2009-11-06 09:13 BJT

Maritime safety authorities staged a joint maritime search-and-rescue exercise in waters off Shanghai. A visiting US Coast Guard vessel also took part.

The drill involved three sailors falling into the water. The Donghai Rescue Bureau sent a vessel along with the US Coast Guard vessel to the area after receiving a distress call. The vessel saved one sailor with a net. Another sailor was saved by a lifeboat from the US ship. The last sailor was saved by the bureau's helicopter.

Donghai Rescue Bureau has held exchange visits with the US Coast Guard since 2005. Both express the hope of enhancing communication on maritime rescue techniques.
