Snowstorms affect China

After freezing northern parts of the country over the past week, the cold front with heavy snow has moved south. Authorities at all levels are taking the appropriate measures to cope with the severe weather.

Hangzhou and other cities in Zhejiang province, have seen their earliest snow fall in ten years.

More than 11 centimeters of snow have blanketed some cities in Hubei Province.

Ferry services in Nanjing have been suspended due to the snow. The cold weather has also frozen traffic flows on a bridge crossing the Yangtze River.

A Nanjing resident said, "We have been stuck here for more than an hour. And the buses are also stuck in the line."

Emergency rooms in the city are crowded by patients with bone fractures that were caused by slippery roads. Doctors are advising people to reduce their outdoor activities and to put on more clothing.
