A strong cold front has delivered snow to China's southern areas, one month earlier than last year. Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Anhui provinces, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, are racing to ensure that necessities and energy supplies continue flowing to residents.
Guangdong Province received its first snowfall of the season on Tuesday. The lowest recorded temperature was minus-4 degrees Celsius.
Qiu Zhuangzhong, Traffic policeman of Shaoguan in Guangdong Province, said, "Since the temperature fell below zero degrees, we have broadcast an updated weather forecast, and spread salt on the main roads every half-hour."
An early snowstorm also hit the Guibei Mountain Area, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Tuesday. The local metrological department issued a frost warning. So far, traffic movement and power supplies have not been affected.
Meanwhile, employees at the Huainan Mining Group in Anhui Province are working hard to ensure a continued stream of resources. Approximately 40 freight trains have been carrying coal from mines to stations across the country on a daily basis.
Wang Rong, Marketing Dept. of Huainan Mining Group, said, "We have suspended other sales channels to ensure the resource supply to residents. On the other hand, we have kept in close contact with power plants to make sure transportation is available at any time."
