Special Report: Rebirth of Sichuan |
The devastating Sichuan Earthquake in 2008 damaged thousands of roads in the countryside. Now, almost two years later, not only have the roads been repaired, but transportation in some counties is even better than before the tremor struck.
The highway under construction will be a major link between Anxian and two nearby counties.
It used to be a muddy road.
A local villager said, "Traffic here was really bad. There were clouds of dust on fine days and mud in rainy weather."
Things will be better soon. Construction will be completed by the end of April.
Liaoning Province is offering financial and personnel assistance for the reconstruction of Anxian County. The highway is the biggest project with an investment of 400 million yuan.
Meanwhile, a huge industrial park is rising along the highway.
It will provide 12 thousand jobs when construction is finished in 2012.
The help is not temporary, it is extending into the future.
