Investigations show that 261 workers were in the pit complex at the Wangjialing Coal Mine when underground water gushed in at about one forty p.m. Sunday.

President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao ordered local authorities to spare no effort to save the trapped while guarding against secondary disasters. Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has arrived at the site to oversee the rescue operation.
