Grand view of the tidal bore at Qiangtang River

03-15-2010 10:27 BJT

The tidal bore of the Qiantang River in the Gulf of Hangzhou of East China is the most spectacular in the world. The sprays of the surging tidal bore reach as high as 8.93 metres with a current velocity of 24 kilometres per hour. Its roar can be heard within a circumference of 22 kilometres. This accounts for a Chinese description that“the roar of the tidal bore sounds like ten thousand armies.” There were many unforgetable Chinese Ink Landscape Painting about the Tidal Bore at Qiantang River in Lin Haizhong’s works. Lin Haizhong has created a series of paintings to introduce Grand View of the Tidal Bore at Qiantang River.
