20 Chinese couples decided to tie the knot in a very traditional way on Monday. Despite a trend toward western style weddings in China, the brides and grooms decided to dress up in traditional red robes and other paraphernalia. The eastern Chinese water town Fengjing provided the backdrop to a very cultured and elegant event.
Ten wedding boats lined up on the river meandering through Fengjing. Twenty couples stepped into new lives together in a ceremony steeped in tradition. The boat parade drew plenty of attention from onlookers who waved to the happy couples.
For urbanites, a traditional wedding at the water town means loads of excitement.
The traditional wedding ceremonies also included the spoon-feeding of peanut soup and Chinese dates which symbolizes wishes for a child.
