Actors Sir Michael Caine and Daniel Day Lewis were among those honored at the annual British Independent Film Awards Sunday evening in London.

Bond beauty Gemma Arterton presented Caine, whose acting career spans over five decades and includes films such as "The Dark Knight," "Get Carter", and the more recent "Harry Brown," with the Variety Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The 76-year-old actor, who has always had a flair for comedy, expressed gratitude that they didn't show his career highlights in chronological order, as they would have made him look old.

Also walking away with an honor was Daniel Day Lewis, who was presented with the Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Film by an Actor.

The star, who will next be seen in Rob Marshall's musical "Nine," looked humbled as he collected his award.

Other winners on the night included Carey Mulligan who won the Best Actress Award for her role in the coming of age drama "An Education," while Tom Hardy was announced as the Best Actor for "Bronson."

Gritty British film, "Fish Tank" walked away with two awards - one for it's unknown actress, 18-year-old Kate Jarvis who was awarded most promising newcomer, and one for director Andrea Arnold.

The awards, now in their 12th year, celebrate independently funded British films.
