Xiamen to host 2010 new year concert

While the Chinese capital is the traditional venue for new year concerts, the organizers have decided to move eastward to Fujian province to usher in 2010.

The decision comes after a consideration to include more musical elements from across the Taiwan Strait. The China Philharmonic Orchestra is expected to play to audiences from both sides.

Conductor Yu Long says Taiwan ballads such as Grandma's Penghu Bay will be included in the program. The New Year Concert will air live on CCTV-1 and the Music Channel on December 31st.
