Russia Ice Festival celebrates space exploration

Russia is holding its International Festival of Snow and Ice in Moscow till the end of February. This year, the Festival is devoted to the 50th anniversary of Russian space exploration.

The festival's main theme is "Space Odyssey". The Memorial Museum of Space Exploration Park is a fitting venue. Visitors can trace the development of Russian space exploration, and see the legendary spaceships "Vostok" and "Soyuz."

Movie lovers can be entertained by the exotic worlds and characters from Star Wars.

Award-winning Russian ice-sculptors have transformed over one thousand tons of ice.

And for the first time in the history of the festival, a Russian Grand Prix for ice sculpture will be awarded on Thursday.

Russia will celebrate its 50th anniversary of space exploration next year. On April 12th 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. That journey lasted 108 minutes.
