Pingtan is an art form from Suzhou, in East China's Jiangsu Province. It combines story telling and ballad singing, and is usually performed by two actors.

A new adaptation of the traditional Pingtan piece "Four Beauties", will be staged in Taipei from January 12th to 15th. Both veteran and new Pingtan artists will perform.

Nearly 30 artists from east China's Shanghai municipality, and Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province, form Pingtan's strongest line up yet.

The work is based on the legends of four ancient Chinese beauties, Xi Shi, Wang Zhaojun, Diao Chan and Yang Yuhuan. The performance is to promote cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
