Temple above the Gorge

Long Qing Xia, which means "The Dragon Celebrates the Gorge", is a beautiful spot in Yanqing county, northwest of Beijing. It got its name from an illusion, created by a waterfall on the mountain, that looks like a dragon in mid-flight. Near the peak is the famous "Temple of Immortals".

The "Temple of Immortals" is 900 years old, and the a trademark of Long Qing Xia.

Believers used to burn incense here, during Ming and Qing dynasties. And writers would leave beautiful poems and essays, some of which are still treasured today.

The original temple was destroyed by wind, rain, and war. The temple we see today was built by the local government in 1991. It took 7-years and cost 10-million yuan.

Now cable cars drop passengers at the mountainous peak, to see the temple.

The bell in the courtyard is known for its resonating sounds. It's often said, the sound can be heard 30-kilometers away.
