Suzhou signs deal for silk museum

East China's silk capital of Suzhou is planning a museum to showcase its glorious history of silk production and fashion. This week, an agreement was signed for the project.

According to the arrangement, Suzhou University and the Suzhou Development Zone will team up to construct the building, which will be located on the banks of the Grand Canal.

The facility will demonstrate the whole process from mulberry farming to silk weaving. Rich in natural resources, Suzhou has been a major silk production hub since ancient times.

During the Song and Yuan Dynasties over 800 years ago, locally produced silk fabrics used to form a major export from China to Europe.
