Sunday morning at Huangqi dock of Lianjiang village many rich and diverse hand-made lanterns were loaded up and ready to sail. The sizes range from hand-held lanterns to some which reach 3-meters tall.

Twice as many lanterns from seven villages and counties in Fuzhou city were involved in the festivities this year compared to last year.

The tradition of celebrating the Lantern Festival between Mawei and Mazu is a special bond and the first co-application for national intangible cultural heritage between the maindland and Taiwan.
