Chinese folk song concert held in Vienna

A classic folk song concert featuring Chinese singer Zu Hai and Spanish tenor Jose Carreras was held this week in the Golden Hall in Vienna to mark the upcoming Shanghai Expo.

Zu Hai, a popular Chinese folk song singer, performed Chinese and foreign folk songs including "My Motherland," "The Village Sanshilipu," "Clouds Like Hada," and "Song of the Mountains."

Carreras performed songs including "Core n` grato," an Italian folk song from alvatore Cardillo, and the Spanish opera "Roso-pel teu amor".

As a duet, the singers performed the Chinese folk song "Faraway Place" in Chinese.

The concert was accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Boys Choir. The two music groups also sang the "Blue Danube."

At the reception held after the concert, Jose Carreras extended his best wishes for the upcoming Shanghai Expo.

The concert was organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, in cooperation with the Austrian-Chinese Cultural Exchange Association and the Austrian-Chinese Friendship Association.

The concert drew an audience of more than one thousand. Among them were Austrian Justice Minister, Claudia Bandion-Ortner, President of the Friendship Association, Chen Haosu, and Chinese Ambassador to Austria Wu Ken, the Permanent Representative of China to United Nations Office at Vienna.
