U2 rocks Brazil

Hollywood stars such as Matt Dillon may be in Europe, but European stars are in South America. Irish rock group U2 urged Brazilians to help end poverty in their country during a spectacular concert Monday night. Fans packed a Sao Paulo soccer stadium to see the internationally acclaimed band.

About 70,000 fans packed Morumbi Stadium for the eagerly awaited show. The band delivered with a two-hour performance that mixed hard-edged rock with high emotion. During the show, lead singer Bono urged the audience to work hard to beat poverty. Whether the message got through to the legions of fans or not, it was clear they enjoyed the show.

Rosa Maria, U2 Fan said: "The audience was really animated. It was really good."

And by nightfall, fans were already lining up for the second show by the Irish rock group -- scheduled for Tuesday night. After its Brazil concerts, the band will perform in Santiago, Chile on Feb. 26 and Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 1 and 2.
