Huangmei Opera was formed in the 18th century, when Chinese local operas were flourishing. Originally it was a combination of local folk songs, dances and some widely spread ancient operas. Huangmei Opera was born as a response to the needs of the market. The artists of Hui Song and “Gao Qiang” Singing created the earliest Huangmei Opera troupes. In the early Qing Dynesty, Shipai had already become a center of Anqing, the capital of Anhui Province. People called Shipai Town. Here, there are not only Peking Opera but also Huangmei Opera.
