October first marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. News Hour on CCTV International brings you a series of reports on each of the country's provinces, municipalities and special administrative regions.

Liaoning province is located in the southern part of Northeastern China. To the south is the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Gulf.

Liaoning covers 145,900 square kilometers. And its population is over 42 million.

China's last feudal dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, originated from Liaoning. Visitors to the provincial capital Shenyang can see its Forbidden City, also known as the Mukden Palace. While not as large and famous as the Beijing Forbidden City, the Mukden Palace is significant for its representation of palace architecture in the early Qing Dynasty. It's been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
