China Central Television is to launch its Russian Channel on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Beijing and Moscow. It's another major step for the broadcaster, following its English, French, Spanish and Arabic Channels.
China Central Television is going to launch its Russian Channel on September 10th. It represents the latest development in the network's global strategy of multi-lingual programming and wide-ranging coverage.
Zhang Changming, vice president of China Central Television,said, "The launch of CCTV Russian Channel will promote the long-time friendship between the Chinese people and the Russian people. It's a gift for the 60th anniversary of the founding of new China and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia."
CCTV Russian will air through two telecommunication satellites-Chinasat 6B and EB-9A, which cover the Asian-Pacific Region, Middle East, and Europe.
The 24-hour network targets about 300 million viewers in 12 Commonwealth of Independent States members, Eastern Europe and three Baltic Sea nations.
CCTV Russian will carry 16 programs in forms of news, feature stories, entertainment and educational programs.
The daily schedule will be divided into four 6-hour blocks. News broadcasts will be constantly updated, while all feature programs will be aired four times daily.
