Now time for our sepcial series "China on the Move". 30 years have passed since China adopted its policy of reform and opening up to the outside world. Shenzhen, as one of the first four economic zones, has seen vast changes during the past three decades. People in the city have also enjoyed personal growth on the city's fast track of development.

Liu Jianguo and his wife came to Shenzhen in 1983. After more than 20 years struggling and striving for a better life, they now have their own businesses and are living a comfortable life. They say the city, like themselves, had nothing when they arrived here 26 years ago.

Liu Jianguo said, "Shenzhen was very underdeveloped at that time. But it was at the forefront of China's economic development. I was poor and hoped to have some personal development here. The city gave me lots of opportunities. I did various jobs and later started some small businesses. After trying for years, I decided to do Chinese medicine. Most of our products are sold to foreign countries."

Zhang Huimei, Liu Jianguo's wife, said, "We are happy to be witness to the fast development in Shenzhen. I was across the street when Mr. Deng Xiaoping came to Shenzhen in 1992. He told us to be innovative. His speech inspired all of us. We were encouraged to work hard. People in Shenzhen are very grateful to him."

Liu Jianguo very cherishes the happy life of his family. He also often tells his son to treasure his life and to be thankful.
