Moto GP rider Jorge Lorenzo is trying to get his championship plan back on track at the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Spaniard gave his faltering title hopes a small boost in Friday's practice session at the Sepang circuit.

Lorenzo's title hopes suffered a major blow when he crashed out last weekend. But he was back to his best on Friday, lapping the 5.54-kilometre circuit in a fast time of two minutes, 02.180 seconds.

Stoner is back from illness, and he continues to end the season in style.Stoner missed three races recovering from gastritis and anemia. He finished second fastest on Friday, 64-hundreths-of-a-second behind Lorenzo. Dani Pedrosa was more than half-a-second off the pace of Lorenzo and Stoner in third place.

Valentino Rossi only needs a fourth place finish in Malaysia to guarantee a seventh premier-class title. Andrea Dovizioso finished fifth with a time of two minutes, 03.142 seconds. Loris Capirossi rounded out the top six.

Jorge Lorenzo said, "Yes, back on form. I'm quite comfortable on the 'bike and I feel great on this circuit since the beginning because, normally you have always a doubt when you arrive to a track, but now I feel so quick on the 'bike and my lap times were quite fast, so it's always good to start well on the first day."
