Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |

Mexico City increased its A/H1N1 flu alert to yellow this week and various measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

On Friday, a thorough cleaning of the city's metro stations began. Civil protection personnel handed out antibacterial gel and information leaflets to passengers.

Cleaning staff were busy disinfecting metro stations with water and chlorine.

As part of the measures, the authorities are urging Mexicans to support a "culture of health," and maintain sanitary conditions in places where crowds gather. Mexico City mayor, Marcelo Ebrard says children are more susceptible to this new outbreak.

Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico City Mayor, said, "During the last outbreak few children were infected. The patients were older but now we are seeing more cases involving children, not only in Mexico, but also in the United States and other countries around the world. We have to take care with children under the age of 10."
