1st snowfall causes delays at Beijing airport

2009-11-02 13:22 BJT

Beijing's first snowfall this winter has brought delays at the Beijing Capital International Airport. There was better news for motorists though, after no major jams were caused during Monday's morning rush.

The airport carried out its emergency plan on Sunday. Stranded passengers complained of waiting for hours and being advised to call a dysfunctional hotline. The airport pledged to use the experience to improve its service.

On the roads, Monday morning's peak hours reported no major traffic jams. Authorities say this was due to the city's effective measures against the snowy weather and many citizens easing congestion by using public transport.
