Investors chase gold products

2009-11-08 15:00 BJT

As gold has outperformed many investment options recently, more and more investors are turning to the perennially-safe product for stable returns.

At this Beijing gold outlet, a steady stream of customers arrive at the store looking to make purchases.

Customer, said, "The gold price is rising, so I've come here to take a look."

Some investors are buying gold at pawn shops because the price is slightly lower. Staff say the number of gold buyers has risen 10 percent each month recently.

Customer, said, "Gold can retain its value, so I'm considering investing in it."

But despite the general enthusiasm, many investors still lack the proper knowledge of gold investment.

Customer, said, "I don't know much about it. But I do know that the price is rising."

Currently, Chinese investors have many methods for investing in the precious metal. Real gold includes gold bullion and gold jewelry, while virtual gold includes futures, stocks, and paper gold. There are also other wealth management products that focus on gold investment. Industry insiders say although gold investment is comparatively safe, it still involves risks.

Li Chunhua, Manager of Huaxia Pawnshop Company, said, "Every investment has its risk. There are ups and downs. Investors should be aware of their risk-withstanding capabilities."

Tao Xinyim President of Jinding Gold Investment, said, "Gold investment is comparatively safe. Investment strategies should be long-term focused, instead of aimed at short-term speculation. Short-term investment is risky for ordinary investors, while middle and long-term investment are the best strategies for a bull market."

Experts suggest that ordinary investors should not get involved in high-risk gold futures and stocks investment. Instead, they should choose real gold or paper gold, which are safer options.
