Pakistani offensive pushes ahead in key Taliban towns

2009-11-09 14:43 BJT

Pakistani troops' operation in South Waziristan has lasted nearly a month.

The army said its offensive has proceeded smoothly in and around key Taliban towns in the region. But troops have still not arrested any high-ranking Taliban leaders.

The number of militants killed or arrested has been minimal so far. The upcoming winter will also make the operation difficult. Meanwhile, the Taliban has threatened to carry out more attacks.
