Security Council to receive Gaza report

2009-11-10 13:50 BJT

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will send the Goldstone report on war crimes in Gaza to the Security Council. In the report, both Israel and Hamas militants are accused of war crimes during the 22 day Israeli invasion of Gaza that began on December 27th last year.

The 192-nation UN General Assembly voted last week to approve a resolution calling on both Israel and Palestine to conduct independent and credible investigations into the allegations.

The new resolution calls for the investigations to be in conformity with international standards and to be started within three months.

It was adopted after more than 40 countries, including Israel, took part in a two-day General Assembly debate on the Goldstone report.
