This is President Hu Jintao's second visit to Singapore, but the first state visit to the Republic.  The trip kicks off a series of events to mark the 20th anniversary of bilateral ties next year. Singapore is one of China's major trading partners in Asia.

Last year, two-way trade reached 52.4 billion US dollars, 10-and-a-half percent than the previous year.  In October last year, the two countries signed a free trade agreement, which came into force two months later.
