Power supplies short across Europe

2010-01-11 13:09 BJT

As a result of the cold snap, Europe is being forced to battle gas and power shortages.

Gas demand for heating in the UK has hit an all-time high, as the cold snap forces temperatures to drop as low as minus 6 degrees. Almost a hundred businesses had to sacrifice gas, to ensure there was enough for households.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has assured Britons, supplies in the country will NOT run out. The arctic conditions have also caused power shortages in other European countries.

7-thousand households in southern France lost power. Residents in large parts of southern Poland and Germany, were also blacked out.
