Honduras coup participants likely to get amnesty

2010-01-27 14:04 BJT

Honduras' Supreme Court has dismissed charges against top military commanders, who led a coup in June. An amnesty motion will be presented on Wednesday the same day Honduras' new president will be sworn in.

Honduras' Supreme Court President Jorge Rivera said the country's six military commanders were justified in their actions. He said they aimed to preserve the peace, and didn't intend to cause any harm to leftist President Manuel Zelaya.

They escorted him out of the country at gunpoint in June.

The Congress President announced he'll present an amnesty motion for the commanders on Wednesday.
