For more analysis on the US planned arms sale to Taiwan, Professor Xie Tao joins us by phone. Professor Xie is from the School of English and International Studies at the Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Q1: Hello Professor Xie. The China-US relationship warmed in 2009. US President Barack Obama visited China in November, and the two countries also resumed the halted defense consultations. But underneath these encouraging signs, there are issues with trade, and Google China. And the arms sale issue will definitely cause more negative impact on the relationship. How do you interpret the US move?

Q2: The arms sale issue is one of the most sensitive topics in the cross-strait relationship. And this is not the first time the US has sold a large amount of arms to Taiwan, despite strong opposition from the Chinese mainland. China believes the US plan is acting in a way that seriously undermines China's core interests, and China's attitude on the isse is standing firm. What do you think is the proper way to solve this problem?
