US President Barack Obama has met with the new Chinese Ambassador to the US, Zhang Yesui, and has accepted a credential letter at the White House.

Obama welcomed the new Ambassador and reaffirmed the US commitment to the one-China policy. He says China-US ties are one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. He said the two countries should strengthen cooperation in tackling challenges including climate change, preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, as well as the maintenance of regional peace and stability.

Zhang Yesui noted a sound China-US relationship will benefit not only both countries, but also the Asia-Pacific Region and the whole world. He said the Chinese government is willing to work with the US, and is committed to the consensus made by the two governments.
