A player took-on his coach in a gold medal shooting-showdown in the National Games on Thursday. It happened in the final title match in the men's skeet competition. Jin Di represented Shanghai and claimed the top spot with a score of 143 points. He beat his coach Qu Ridong, who took third place with 140 points.

Qu Ridong entered the competition as the defending champion. He coached Jin Di for nearly 15 years. Qu said he got more jitters than his students before the match, competing on the same court in this National Games. Jin Di proved the student could surpass the teacher by pocketing the gold medal.

Outside the shooting range the National Games was marred by its second doping case. Inner Mongolia's shooter Li Jie tested positive for a banned substance.
Li failed the tests for the betablocker propranolol, which is used to prevent trembling in events such as shooting and archery.

It came just five days after Henan rower Guo Linna was found to be taking the steroid 19-norandrostenedione.
