Over to the men's 100m finals, where hot favorite Hu Kai raced with his iconic glasses. But he surprisingly finished in last place. Lu Bin from Jiangsu province edged another heavy favorite, Zhang Peimeng, to win the title.

Lu won the 2007 National Grand Prix, and he blasted out of the blocks again to hit the front with about 20 meters left before finding an extra burst of speed to win in 10.25 seconds.

Beijing's Zhang Peimeng took the gold medal at the 2007 National Championships and won the heats on Wednesday, but he was runner-up in the final at 10.31.

Fujian's Guo Fan claimed bronze in 10.41. The national record is 10.17 set by Zhou Wei in 1998. Hu Kai, Universiade gold medalist in 2005, finished last in 10.59.

Like race walker Wang Hao, Lu Bin said he never expect such a good result, and he admitted that he was ready for the sprint final.

So Lu Bin added a gold medal into Jiangsu's medal tally. Zhang Peimeng won the silver, and the bronze went to Fujian's Guo Wei.
