The battle for gold in the 69 kilogram weightlighting class turned out to be virtually a one-man show. Olympic champion Liao Hui claimed victory in spectacular fashion.

Liao was the last one to take to the platform. He successfully lifted 160 kg on his second attempt in the snatch event to level the Asian record. But that turned out to be just the beginning.

Liao Hui lifted 163 kg in his third attempt to set a new national record. And that was still not the end of new records set that night. He then steadily lifted 195kg, to bring his total to 358 kg for another national record and a new world record.

Though he failed in his attempt to lift 198kg, he still successfully made some breakthroughs in the 69kg category.
