Meng Yan wins men's 400m hurdles

In the men's 400m hurdles, Meng Yan from Jilin province was also out to defend his championship crown. But Zhang Shibao from host province Shandong and Li Guangjing of Inner Mongolia would make him fight for it.

Being the penultimate day of the athletics competition in the Games, each athlete was vying to add a gold to their provinces' tallies. It was a close contest in the first half of the match.

But Doha Asian Games runner-up Meng Yan enlarged the gap as he led from the penultimate hurdle. The 29-year-old grabbed a look at his opponents while sprinting to the finish line first in 50.04 seconds. Li Guangjin finished second, Zhang Shibao finished third.


Meng Yan, said, The 1.89-meter said he was very relaxed in the race, summarising it as a "serious atmosphere, relaxed course and perfect result".

So Meng Yan took the gold again for Jilin, and Inner Mongolia and the hosts added a silver and bronze into their medal tallies respectively.
