Defending champion Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and Italian co-driver Giovanni Bernacchini stormed to victory at the Jordan Rally on Saturday. The result extends their lead to three points in the standings with just one round of the series remaining.
Defending champion Al-Attiyah wasted no time in stamping his authority on the weekend and alongside Bernacchini, went on to win six of the day's eight gravel stages. That saw the Subaru Impreza pairing begin the second and final day with a comfortable 1 minute 19.2 second lead over the chasing pack. After taking the win on the opening stage on day two and increasing his lead, Al-Attiyah came under pressure from Subaru driver Roger Feghali, who narrowed the advantage by reducing the gap to just 59.5 seconds. But the championship leader visibly eased the pace in the late stages and crossed the finish line with a 32.2 second lead to claim his fifth win at the Rally of Jordan in seven years.
