The top team in France's Ligue 1 tasted defeat on Sunday. League leader Bordeaux went down 2-0 at struggling Lille. But Bordeaux kept the top spot in the standings thanks to Lyon's 5-5 draw with Marseille.

At the Stadium Metropole, the teams found few clear goal-scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes of the Ligue 1 fixture.

But the action picked up speed after the break. Rudi Garcia's Bordeaux squad began to dictate the terms against the league leaders. Gervinho delivered a key pass in the 70th minute. Yohan Cabaye converted 1-0 Bordeaux.

Referee Herve Piccirillo said Michael Ciani's challenge on Lille's Larsen Toure was illegal. Florent Balmont stepped up to score the penalty. The 87th minute spot-kick completed the 2-0 surprise for Lille over Bordeax.
