Chinese athletes make strong start at Asia Championships

Day one of the Asia Championships in Guangzhou are in the books and Chinese athletes got off to a strong start.

National Games gold medalist Zhang Peimeng managed third place in the men's 100m qualification with a time of 10.55 seconds.

Tao Yujia and Chen Yu both moved into the women's 100m race final.

In the women's 100-meter hurdle, National Games runner-up Sun Yawei made it into the final after coming first in the qualification event.

National Games gold medalist Liu Xiaosheng came in second in the men's 400-meter race for a place in the final.

In the men's 1500-meter race, two Chinese athletes made it into the final. This is the first time China has held the Asian Athletics Championship.

It has sent 85 athletes onto the track, including star hurdler Liu Xiang and long distance runner Bai Xue.
