Sun Yawei wins women's 100m hurdles

Sun Yawei faced a showdown with Japan's Asuka Terada in the women's 100m hurdles final. Sun and Terada darted to the front at the start, and the two runners kept the competition close throughout the race. They crossed the line with almost identical times, but Sun triumphed in a time of 13.19 seconds, only 1-one hundredth of a second ahead of Terada. Dedeh Erawati from Indonesia took the bronze medal.

Liu Xiaosheng takes gold in men's 400m

China's Liu Xiaosheng staged a terrific final sprint in the men's 400. Liu ran second, behind Japan's Yuzo Kanemaru, with less than 100 meters to go, but the Chinese saved his strength for the final kick down the stretch...and took over in the last 20 meters.

Liu swept past his Japanese rival and won the gold medal in a time of 46.55 seconds. Kanemaru took silver in a time of 46.60. Mohemmed Alsivyani from Saudi Arabia won bronze.

Fukushima wins women's 100m

Japan's veteran sprinter Chisato Fukushima dominated the women's 100 meter final from the start. She held a comfortable lead at the halfway mark and crossed the finish line in a time of 11.27 seconds. Huong Vu Thi from Vietnam was second and Manjunath Hiriyur from India third.

Tanno races to gold in women's 400m

And Asami Tanno from Japan embarked on a final sprint to win the women's 400. She overtook China's Chen Lin and Mandeep Kaur from India to claim the gold medal in a time of 53.32 seconds. Chen won silver in a time of 53.55.
