Chinese ping pong players proved again that they are Asia's best. The men's and women's teams both took top honors in the Asian Table Tennis Championships.

First, China faced Japan in the men's team final. Young paddler Xu Xin played Kenta Matsudaira in the first match. The Chinese player started slowly and let Matsudaira race to a 2 games to 1 lead. Matsudaira wrapped up the first match 3-1 to give Japan a 1-0 overall lead.

Zhang Jike and Jun Mizutani followed that match up with a tight contest. The Japanese player rallied with Zhang and returned some high-speed slams. But Zhang used his patience to take the match 3-1, to level the overall score at 1-1.

Then, Chinese star Ma Long lost to Seiya Kishikawa 3-0 in the third match and Japan retook the lead.

China pulled the overall score to 2-all in the next match, so it came down to Zhang Jike against Matsudaira for the decider. Zhang rose to the occasion and dominated the match, beating Matsudaira 3-0. China won the Asian Championship men's team tournament for a record 6th time.

China took on Malaysia in women's final. Fan Ying gave China a strong start. She dispatched Feng Tian Wei in straight games for a 1-0 China lead.

Then, Ding Ning conceded only one game in her match against Wang Yuegu. Her victory increased China's advantage to 2-0.

But Malaysia stayed in the competition with a surprise victory. Sun Beibei fought back from one game down to stun China's top peddler Li Xiaoxia to trim the overall score to 2-1.

Then in the fourth match, Ding Ning faced Feng Tian Wei. Ding took control of the match from the start, and the top seed wasted no chances to whitewash Feng 3-0. China beat Malaysia 3-1 and successfully defended the women's title it won in 2007.
