China continues table tennis domination

Chinese table tennis player Xu Xin continues to leave his mark on the East Asian Games in Hong Kong. Xu has now collected his third gold medal after a dominant performance in the men's single final.

In the gold medal matchup, Xu took on compatriot Zhang Jike. The 19 year old Xu would take advantage of a wrist injury Zhang suffered earlier in the tournament to roll to a relatively easy 4-1 win. For the 19-year-old player, this is his first singles title in a major international tournament.

Xu's medal came just hours after he and Zhang teamed up to claim the doubles crown at the East Asian Games. The pair, beating Chiang Peng-lung and Wu Chih-Chi from Chinese Taipei 4-1.

The Xu and Zhang fell 6-10 behind in the first set, but their opponents from Chinese Taipei were unable to close out the set and eventually, the Chinese pair came back to win 13-11.

Leading the game 3-0 going into the fourth set, the two sides would find themselves tied at 4-all and 7-all, with the team from Chinese Taipei going on to extend the game with a win.

But, Xu and Zhang would close out the game in the fifth set, going on to a commanding 4-1 win to claim the title.
