Chinese women's ice hockey team loses to Russia 2-1

The Chinese women's ice hockey team is looking for its first win in Vancouver. It wrapped up round robin play with an 0-3 record after a tough 2-1 loss to Russia on Thursday.

Russia broke through in the second period. Ekaterina Smolentsova wristed a shot into the top right corner past Chinese goalie Shi Yao and made it 1-0.

Russia's second came on a power play. Marina Sergina took the pass from Tatiana Burina and slung the puck home. Russia took a 2-0 advantage.

China came back quickly 90 seconds before the end of the frame, but the team could not complete the comeback. China lost the match 2-1, placing last in Group B.

All 8 teams advance to the elimination round, there China will face Switzerland on Sunday.
