The world No. 8 Murphy seemed very confident from the beginning of the match, as he got off quicklyleading 8-1 after the first session.

But he had to withstood a late charge by Greene, who managed a comeback by winning the 10th frame 97-0.

Although Murphy took advantage of his defence then in the next frame, making himself on the verge of victory at 9-2, things began to turn around.

Greene would take five frames in a row with runs of 67,65,55 and 92. He also claimed the fourteenth to narrow the gap to 9-7.

However when the pressure was on, Murphy responded in style. He got a chance in the 17th and compiled a break of 87 to finally secure a place in the round two.

He faces Chinese star Ding Junhui in what is potentially another mouth-watering clash as the tournament enters the next phase.
